Kayaking with Cape Fur Seals

Today was just magical and one I will never forget. We drove to Walvis Bay and met Jeanne, our guide who then drove us over yet more sand around the lagoon. On the way we saw salt pans, pelicans, thousands of flamingos and several families of jackals.

Once we got to Pelican Point we were surrounded by noisy seal colonies with approximately 10,000 seals. We then put on waterproof, warm clothes and started paddling towards them. The very cute babies are still unable to swim so stay on the beach, but the older seals swam, jumped and deliberately soaked us with a grin on their faces, just an amazing experience to be surrounded by such fabulous animals.

The oil rigs in the background are brought here to be repaired. We also had a brief glimpse of dolphins in the lagoon - I'm still smiling!
The drive back to Swakopmund is quite something too.

Namibia is the only place in the world where the desert meets the ocean. It may also be the only place where a supermarket plays Cliff Richard's Summer Holiday followed by Silent Night on 11th January!
